Lambert’s General Grant 🍅
Lambert’s General Grant is a really special old heirloom dating back to 1869. It was developed by a gardener named Mr. Lambert in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and is one of those varieties with a long history that has managed to survive for well over 150 years.
The plants are indeterminate and vigorous, producing large, beautiful rose-pink beefsteak tomatoes that are ribbed and often reach close to a pound. The fruits are meaty, juicy and have that rich, old-fashioned tomato flavor that makes these old varieties so fun to grow.
There’s something pretty cool about planting a tomato that was being grown back in 1869. Lambert’s General Grant is a true piece of tomato history and one I’m really happy to be able to grow and excited to share this year!
