Glamour 🍅
Glamour is one of those old tomatoes that I think deserves to be remembered. Released in 1957, it was developed by the Birds-Eye Horticultural Research Laboratories in New York from a cross of Burgess Crackproof × Sioux. It was bred to be a dependable garden tomato, and became especially well known for its excellent crack resistance, something that can be a huge advantage when the weather decides to throw everything at your garden.

Glamour produces round to slightly flattened, bright red fruits, generally around 5–8 ounces, a productive indeterminate, regular-leaf plants. The tomatoes are smooth, meaty and have that classic old fashioned tomato flavor with a nice balance of sweetness and acidity.
I love growing varieties like Glamour that were bred decades ago with the home gardener in mind.
They may not have the flashy names or looks of some newer varieties, but they were bred to produce, perform and taste good. Glamour is a wonderful piece of tomato history from the 1950s and one that is well worth keeping around. It was also used in a lot of important breeding projects during its time. 💗
