Norton 🍅

Norton is an old American tomato with an important place in tomato breeding history. It was developed by John B. S. Norton and USDA breeder Fred J. Pritchard from the old Livingston Stone tomato, with the goal of developing resistance to Fusarium wilt. After years of selection, Norton was released in 1917 and became one of the earliest important wilt-resistant tomato varieties.

The plants are vigorous, indeterminate and late-season, producing good crops of smooth, bright red, oblate tomatoes weighing up to 12 ounces. The fruit is meaty and juicy with thin, crack-resistant skin and a nice old-fashioned, slightly tart tomato flavor. Norton is also known as Norton WR or Wilt-Resistant Stone.

A great old variety for anyone interested in growing tomatoes with a little history behind them. ❣️
