Baby Blue Cherry Tomato

Baby Blue is a beautiful little cherry tomato developed by J&L Gardens and first offered in 2014. It was bred as one of the early anthocyanin, or “blue,” tomatoes, but with good flavor to go along with its unique coloring.

The indeterminate plants are early and very productive, producing loads of round cherry tomatoes that ripen to a deep red with dark indigo-blue shoulders. The blue coloring comes from anthocyanin and becomes more intense where the fruit is exposed to sunlight.

The tomatoes are juicy, sweet and flavorful with just a little acidity. Besides being a great snacking tomato, Baby Blue is also an important little variety in modern tomato breeding. It was used as one of the parents of Sart Roloise, where it contributed that variety’s beautiful anthocyanin coloring.

A really fun one to grow if you love colorful tomatoes, but still want something that tastes good too. My plant was grown in a shaded area so my pictures don't show the blue shoulders as well as you will see when it is grown in full sun.
