Zemer Kau Tomato

Zemer Kau is an old Albanian heirloom that has been grown in central Albania for more than 80–100 years, with seeds traditionally saved and passed down from one generation of gardeners to the next. Its name, “Zemër Kau,” means Ox Heart, a perfect description of its beautiful heart-shaped fruit.

The indeterminate plants produce large, meaty pink oxheart tomatoes, usually around 9–12 ounces, although some can grow well over a pound. The flesh is thick and meaty with few seeds, plenty of juice and a wonderful rich, sweet tomato flavor.

Around 80 days to maturity.

I really love the history behind this one. Zemer Kau isn’t just another oxheart tomato. It’s an old variety that has been kept alive in Albanian gardens for generations, exactly the kind of tomato I love growing and helping preserve.
