Wild Bill’s Old Timey Tomato

Wild Bill’s Old Timey is an old family heirloom from Virginia that has been kept around through generations of seed saving. It’s a harder-to-find variety with beautiful coloring and the kind of old-fashioned flavor that makes these older tomatoes worth preserving.

The indeterminate plants produce large, slightly flattened beefsteak tomatoes that ripen to a beautiful bicolor with red coloring through the fruit and a red blush or cap. Slice one open and you’ll find the same gorgeous red bicolor coloring inside.

The flesh is meaty and juicy with a wonderfully sweet, rich flavor. Fruits are commonly around 9–18 ounces, with larger ones possible.

Midseason.

This is one of those tomatoes that’s just as pretty sliced open as it is on the vine. Sweet, meaty, colorful and a little hard to find — definitely one worth keeping around.
