Verna Orange is an old Indiana heirloom that was introduced by Southern Exposure Seed Exchange in 1990. It’s one of those big old-fashioned heart tomatoes that has earned a following for both its size and flavor.
The indeterminate plants are vigorous and productive with the wispy foliage you often see on oxheart varieties. They produce huge, beautiful orange heart-shaped tomatoes that can easily reach a pound or more.
The flesh is exceptionally meaty with very few seeds and a wonderful mild, sweet, rich tomato flavor. It’s an excellent slicer and also a great choice for sauce because there’s so much flesh and so little seed cavity.
Around 84 days to maturity.
