Spike Tomato

Spike is a really unique variety bred by Fred Hempel of Artisan Seeds. Even before it fruits, this one stands out because of its unusual carrot-leaf foliage. The finely cut, almost lacy leaves look more like carrot foliage than a typical tomato plant and are pretty uncommon in tomatoes.

The small, round fruits ripen to a beautiful rusty brick-red with green and golden striping. Inside, the flesh can have dusky purple-green tones and a juicy texture with a sweet, slightly tangy and almost spicy flavor.

A fun one to grow for both the tomatoes and the plant itself. Definitely one of those varieties that looks different from anything else in the garden.
