Swan is a rare red tomato preserved through Seed Savers Exchange and one of those varieties that doesn’t seem to have much of its history documented outside of seed-saving circles.

The plants produce beautiful red tomatoes with juicy, meaty flesh and a good old-fashioned tomato flavor. It’s a nice all-around variety for slicing, sandwiches, salads, or just eating fresh from the garden.

I love growing varieties like Swan because they’re a reminder of why seed saving matters. Some tomatoes may not have a well-documented story left behind, but keeping the seed growing means the variety itself doesn’t disappear.
