Aleppo Pepper
Aleppo is a treasured heirloom pepper from the Middle East, named after the historic city of Aleppo, Syria. This flavorful variety is best known for its rich, fruity taste and moderate heat, making it one of the most beloved culinary peppers in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking! The peppers typically grow 3–5 inches long, with a slightly tapered shape and smooth to lightly wrinkled skin. Fruits begin green and ripen to a gorgeous deep red.
Unlike many hot peppers that deliver intense heat, Aleppo offers a wonderful balance of warmth, sweetness, and complex flavor. Its distinctive fruity, slightly earthy taste is often described as having hints of raisins or sun-dried tomatoes. Traditionally dried and crushed into the famous Aleppo pepper flakes, this variety is excellent for seasoning meats, vegetables, soups, stews, marinades, and homemade spice blends. The peppers are also delicious roasted or used fresh.
Plants are vigorous, bushy, and productive, producing an abundance of beautiful red peppers throughout the growing season. A fantastic heirloom for gardeners who appreciate peppers with exceptional flavor and a rich culinary history!
