Txorixero (Choricero) Pepper
Txorixero, also known as Choricero, is a traditional heirloom pepper from the Basque region of northern Spain, prized for its rich, sweet flavor and incredible culinary history! This beautiful variety produces elongated, tapered peppers approximately 4–6 inches long that begin green and ripen to a gorgeous deep red.
Unlike hot peppers, Txorixero is valued for its sweet, mild flavor and rich, slightly earthy taste. Traditionally, these peppers are strung together and dried, then rehydrated so their flavorful flesh can be scraped from the skin and added to traditional Basque dishes. They are especially popular in sauces, stews, soups, and the famous Spanish chorizo sausage. Their thin to medium walls make them excellent for drying and preserving.
Plants are vigorous, bushy, and productive, producing an abundance of beautiful red peppers throughout the growing season. A wonderful old-world heirloom for gardeners who appreciate traditional European varieties with exceptional flavor and a fascinating culinary heritage!
