Isleta Pepper
Isleta is a traditional New Mexican heirloom chile pepper with a rich history rooted in the Isleta Pueblo community of New Mexico. This historic variety is prized for its flavorful, slender fruits and its connection to generations of Southwestern chile-growing traditions! Peppers typically grow 3–5 inches long, with a tapered, slightly curved shape. Fruits begin green and ripen to a beautiful deep red.
Isleta peppers offer a wonderful balance of rich chile flavor and spicy heat, making them excellent for traditional New Mexican cooking. They can be enjoyed fresh, roasted, or dried and ground into flavorful red chile powder. Perfect for homemade enchilada sauces, salsas, stews, and other Southwestern dishes. Their relatively thin walls also make them well suited for drying into traditional chile ristras.
Plants are vigorous, bushy, and productive, producing an abundance of beautiful red peppers throughout the growing season. A wonderful heirloom for gardeners who appreciate historic American varieties and the rich agricultural heritage of the Southwest!
